What Is a Slot?

1. an opening, hole, or groove, usually with a vertical edge. 2. an allotment, appointment, or position that someone holds: He has a slot as the Gazette’s chief copy editor. 3. a place in a machine where something can be inserted: She slotted the filter into the slot.

A slot is a dynamic placeholder that either waits for content (a passive slot) or receives it from a scenario via an Add Items to Slot action or a renderer. The content in a slot is dictated by its scenario and can be anything from text to images to data. Slots are used in conjunction with scenarios to deliver personalized content to the service center user and are an important part of offer management.
